Life, my fellow girlfriends, is full of bloody, yucky, gory battles. And if you know anything about me, you know that I'm possibly the most feminine type of girl you will ever meet in your life. My nails are always painted (usually some shade of pink) and I love making things pretty. I love photography, and capturing the smallest elements of beauty. Some of the best moments in life I've spent shopping with my little sister. My Mom jokes that my hair has to be curled, even if I'm just going to the grocery store. No, it's not vanity (I hope!) . . . It's just a longing to be what God created me to be: A girl. A very, very girly girl.
One can only imagine then, that a blog of mine would be titled something much more subdued than what you see at the top of the page. But no, despite the frills and the ruffles and the bows and the curls, I am a warrior. I've been called, by a high and mighty King, to fight in his army. Yes, my nail polish might get a little chipped in the process - but my reward is eternal life in His presence . . . what could be more beautiful than that?
Living in this world requires a lot of gut. Although it may seem harmless, it is a death trap waiting to happen. Every which way you turn, there are enemy soldiers waiting to bring you down. It's a little like a scene from Lord of the Rings, where you see never ending walls of armed fighters coming straight at your fortress. The odds seem impossible, but you're called to fight.
Teenage girls are possibly the most attacked in the world we live in, today. Between the media, and sometimes even our own friends; unrealistic standards for beauty, temptations towards immodesty and promiscuity often times prevail over the life God has in mind for His daughters. Although we are so vulnerable to Satan's lures, I've discovered that we can also be the most powerful warriors in God's earthly military. A set-apart girl for Christ can make a huge difference. Her humility, her love, her compassion, her radically different mindset - can be the greatest recruiter for His army.
The battles we face are not limited to the abstract issues of vanity, pride, selfishness, lust, or idolatry. It's a real, spiritual battle. Ephesians 6:12 says,
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
When you're tempted, that's a spiritual power trying to bring you down. When your head tells you "it's OK" despite your better conscience, that's Satan himself shooting your heart with poison arrows. It's time to stand firmly behind our shields!
In just starting out this blog, I have no idea of the impact it will make. I'm not sure if I'll have just one reader, or an entire coalition of God-fearing young ladies joining me in this effort. But my goal, regardless:
To remind the girls of our age that they are strong. That they hold powerful, beautiful places in God's army. It may seem like an unlikely calling... but it's every girl's calling. You are in fact called to a life of spiritual blood and gore. Ready, freddy?
Amen.

Welcome to the world of blogging! I love your mindset and I totally agree -- I read a book one time that said the same thing: a set-apart, holy, pure, godly woman is one of the greatest influences for Christ in an ungodly world. Good for you embracing this challenge!
ReplyDeleteFeel free to come over to my blog anytime!
Love in Christ,
